Detailed Product Overview

The key purpose of this Smashbox primer is oil and shine control. Its formula contains Dimethicone and other silicone based ingredients, which help create the smooth, silky feel associated with many traditional makeup primers. Smashbox also includes Witch Hazel, Salicylic Acid and Zinc in the formula for its oil controlling positioning.

The formula also contains ingredients such as Algae Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Betaine, Trehalose, Glycerin and Tocopherol. These ingredients give the formula a more skin conditioning profile rather than making it simply a mattifying layer.

Smashbox describes the primer as lightweight and breathable, with a matte finish that controls shine without intentionally drying out the skin. It is also listed by the brand as vegan and non acnegenic.

Texture, Finish and Real Life Experience

This is a matte makeup primer, so it is better suited to someone who prefers a controlled, shine free complexion rather than a dewy or glowing base.

Because the formula contains dimethicone and silicone based ingredients, expect a smooth primer texture that helps foundation move more evenly over the skin. It can be particularly useful around areas such as the forehead, nose and chin where oil tends to become noticeable during the day.

For Bangladesh’s warm and humid weather, an oil controlling primer can be especially practical for people whose base makeup becomes shiny after a few hours. However, it will not stop natural sebum production permanently, and the final wear of makeup will also depend on your foundation, skincare, application technique and environment.

Who Is It For?

Ideal for:

Oily skin
Combination skin
People who experience excess shine in the T zone
Anyone who prefers a matte makeup finish
Makeup wearers who want better oil control underneath foundation

If you have very dry or dehydrated skin, you may prefer a hydrating primer instead, particularly if your skin already tends to look flaky or tight. A lightweight moisturiser underneath can also make a mattifying primer more comfortable.

Those who specifically avoid silicone based primers should note that Dimethicone is present in the ingredient list.

Why Customers Choose This Product

The main reason to choose this primer is its focused approach to oil control and matte makeup preparation. Rather than simply creating a smoother canvas, it is designed for people who want their complexion to stay less shiny while wearing makeup.

The combination of a lightweight texture, matte finish and oil controlling ingredients makes it a practical option for oily and combination skin, especially when you prefer a more polished matte base.

How To Use

Complete your skincare routine and allow your moisturiser to settle.
Take approximately a pea sized amount of primer.
Smooth it over clean, moisturised skin, concentrating on areas where you experience the most oil.
Allow it to settle for around 15 seconds before applying makeup.
Apply foundation or other complexion products as usual.

It can also be worn alone when you simply want to reduce visible shine without applying a full face of makeup.

Practical tip: If you have combination skin, you do not necessarily need to apply the same amount everywhere. Concentrating the primer on your T zone can help maintain a more natural finish on areas that are not particularly oily.

Helpful Buying Context

Will it work for oily skin?
Yes. Oil control is the main purpose of this primer, and Smashbox specifically positions it for oily and combination skin. It helps control shine under makeup for up to 12 hours.

Is it suitable for humid weather?
Its mattifying and oil controlling properties make it a practical choice for hot, humid conditions where complexion makeup can become shiny. However, no primer can completely prevent oiliness or makeup movement in every environment.

Is the finish matte or dewy?
It has a matte finish, so choose it if you prefer reduced shine rather than a naturally luminous makeup look.
